Which device should I use?
MusicStudio lessons run in a web browser, so you can join from most modern devices. Each device type has its strengths and trade-offs.
Laptop or desktop computer (recommended)
This is the best option for most students and all teachers. Benefits include a larger screen for seeing your teacher clearly, more stable camera and microphone settings, a stable internet connection option (ethernet), and the easiest control of audio settings. Most laptops from the last five years have a camera and microphone that work well for lessons.
Tablet (iPad or Android tablet)
Tablets work well and offer a good-sized screen. Prop the tablet up securely so it is hands-free and positioned to show both your face and your instrument. A tablet stand is a small investment worth making. Camera quality on modern iPads is generally very good.
Smartphone
You can join a lesson from a smartphone, and it works in a pinch. The main limitation is screen size — a small screen makes it harder to see your teacher, and harder for the teacher to see you clearly. If using a phone, prop it up securely in landscape orientation and ensure it is fully charged.
Tips for all devices
- Charge your device fully or keep it plugged in during the lesson.
- Close other apps to free up processing power and bandwidth.
- Grant the browser permission to use your camera and microphone when prompted.
- Use Chrome for the most reliable experience across all device types.
